Avaya IP Office – TOP 10 Features

by Jeff Wiener on June 13, 2009

Digitcom has now been selling the Avaya IP Office phone system for four years. We are the largest reseller of the Avaya IP Office in Canada, and we constantly extol the merits of the product and new customers.

I was introducing the product at a recent technical seminar and asked the 15 or so people in the room how many were familiar with 5 of my favorite features.  To my surprise, very few raised their hands.

So, over the course of the next 6 weeks we’re going to send out 3 separate emails listing some of those features – hoping of course to drive home the point that the product is still the most robust, feature rich mid sized phone system available in the market.  Some of these features are included (built-into) the system, and some are extra.

NUMBER 1 and my personal favorite – MOBILE TWINNING
Mobile Twinning (extra license.  Purchased in seats of 1,5,10,20, and 50.  Approx. cost is about $75 / seat, one time. PRI phone service required)
Mobile twinning will allow the user to ring their desk phone and cell phone simultaneously.   If they answer their desk phone the cell stops ringing, and if they answer their cell phone their desk set stops ringing.  If the user answer their cell phone they can walk back to their desk, press a button, and take the call from their cell and seamlessly transfer it back to their desk.

An interesting twist available with the latest release 4.2 software, and for those running IP Office 500 with the new PRI card,  you can now transfer, using your cell, to an alternate extension in the office by pressing “**”, entering the extension number, and then either announce the caller to the office respondent, or hang up.  Imagine answering your cell phone and telling the caller “hang on a second.  I will transfer you to the service department”.  NEAT !

NUMBER 2 – CONFERENCE BRIDGE
Built into every IP Office is a 64 party conference bridge.  The next release 5.0 will introduce a 128 port conference bridge !  This conference bridge will allow you to host your own inbound conference call with up to 64 inside or outside participants.  You need to be running PRI (digital lines) to take advantage of this feature.   You can even use one of your DID’s (inbound dedicated phone numbers) to answer with a greeting that sounds something like “Thank you for calling the ABC Company conference bridge.  Please enter your conference bridge number now”.   You can set-up as many bridges as you want, with up to 64 (soon 128) callers on any or all bridges at a time.

NUMBER 3 – AUTOMATIC SILENT CALL RECORDING
This feature has been available as long as we have been selling the product.  You can set the system to automatically record all, or a percentage of all calls into, or out of selected extensions, or manually activate only on the touch of a record key.   Those recordings can be sent to any email address you specify or stored anywhere on your network.  Recordings are stored in a *.WAV format playable with any media player.  You can now have a greeting which says “for quality assurance your call may be monitored or recorded”.  Many companies spend BIG dollars on automatic call recording devices.
