Can you hear that? That’s the deafening silence in response to this weeks internet chatter that the Windows mobile OS is dead.
Rumour has it that Windows mobile used to be found on smart phones, and then the iPhone entered the scene and struck a nearly fatal blow, but the finishing stroke came from the Google Android OS.
Cursory forensic reports show that the first indicator that WinMo was dead came from the folks at Pocket PC live – in an artists rendition of the smartphone evolution:
Notice that Windows Mobile is not present in this image? The artist explains “I didn’t even bother to include it in my evolutionary chart accompanying this article. Compared to Apple and Google’s offerings, there isn’t a Windows Mobile phone on the market that can compete in terms of technology and capability with either iPhone or DROID.”
With less than 4% of the mobile market, is there any chance that Windows mobile 7 can help resurrect this corpse. It’s gonna take a lot more than being able to show flash….
