The bean counters have no idea what a great product Nortel developed. Fo r small business Nortel products have been dependable and reliable, These exiting systems DR1,DR5 - 3x8, CICS, MICS and BCM have been in place for many years and will continue to functions for many more years. New clients will probable go with IP solution. There is a very large market for Nortel products. Assurance and provisioning could be very profitable for a company that wanted to continue support for these systems and products.

Ron,
In regards to your question about SCS. The market is ready and business owners as well as CFO's are ready to embrace the non-proprietary hardware requirements of a product like SCS (Lower Costs to maintain). We have been using the product since it was in its infancy at Pingtel. It has come a long way in the past couple of years. The product is still young and has its issues but it is so much better in its design and simplicity than anything else in the market. I believe if more businesses knew a product like this existed they would move very quickly starting with a hybrid SIP/PBX install and slowly migrate from their legacy systems to SCS.

Morning Jeff,

Thanks for the post on the Avaya roadmap as it pertains to the Small to Midsize enterprise and business market. I am previous Nortel and have moved to Avaya with the acquisition. There is a lot of buzz on the IP office and BCM portfolio as evidenced by your post and others and more information will be forthcoming. My function is business development for the SCS specifically so I am glad that you have mentioned the SCS and would be interested in knowing what you and others on this blog think about SCS (see www.nortel.com/scs) or any pure SIP platform in the SMB/SME market. Is this market ready for such a platform? Does the openness and modern feel of the technology resonate or instill fear in the SME/SMB owners and CFO's?

There seems to be a confusing message out there. Is the BCM being discontinued this year, next year, at all ? I guess it depends on what you read and where you read it. Avaya didn't make that perfectly clear on yesterday's call. There is quite a bit of room for interpretation.
