Zoompass, the leading mobile payment application in Canada, will soon be available to TELUS Blackberry users. This announcement appeared recently on the Zoompass blog. Zoompass provides a quick and easy way to transfer funds from your credit card, bank account or your dedicated Zoompass account.
Zoompass is a brainchild of the Big 3 Carriers in Canada – Bell, Rogers and TELUS. They joined hands last year to develop the Zoompass application on Enstream platform. So, if you are a TELUS Blackberry user, don’t be surprised if you see the Zoompass icon on your BB homescreen. By clicking on the Zoompass icon, TELUS Blackberry users will be able to download the application on their handsets.
There’s been an interesting debate about the prospects of mobile payment applications such as Zoompass vs. flashier technologies such as Near Field Communication and Square (launched by Jack Dorsey of Twitter fame). In my opinion, ‘the simpler the better’. Zoompass is easy to use and uses text messages as notifications and alerts so you don’t need a jazzy feature rich smartphone to run it.
And the best part about Zoompass is that it is a joint effort by Canadian carriers, so you can be rest assured that there are no inter-operability or inter-carrier issues when using it. The Zoompass blog mentions
“Zoompass is a convenient way to send, receive, and request money, instantly and securely, on your mobile phone. Plus it’s FREE to register!
- Zoompass can be used by anyone on the Bell Mobility, Rogers, and TELUS networks as well as customers of their respective affiliates including Fido, PC Mobile, Solo Mobile and Virgin Mobile.
- Zoompass is operated by Enstream – a joint venture of Canada’s three leading carriers; Bell Mobility, Rogers and TELUS”
Zoompass apps for iPhone and Android were out last year and have been quiet popular amongst Canadian users. So, I’m glad that Zoompass has come to TELUS Blackberry users ’better late, than never’.
