Nokia taking a bite out of Apple

apple-iphone-vs-nokia-n95-716-90Not sure if “oops” covers it, but it’s beginning to look like the Apple iPhone operations process might have gone something like this:

–          Create an amazing/revolutionary device

–          Create an incredibly powerful marketing strategy to compel people to line up to buy the product

–          Register/pay for any patent infringements/borrowed technology

Well – 2 outta 3 ain’t bad…

It looks like Apple either forgot, or chose not to, license 10 patents that Nokia holds on GSM, 3G, and WiFi, and now Nokia is suing them for infringement.  Industry analysts are reporting this might cost Apple over $1 billion – so you can bet that lawyers on both sides think Christmas came early this year.

Apple has yet to comment, but according to Nokia Vice President Ilkka Rahnasto. “”By refusing to agree to appropriate terms for Nokia’s intellectual property, Apple is attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia’s innovation.”

It will be interesting to watch these two duke it out in court for the next few decades years.
