Rogers - A Dream or a Nightmare?

Rogers - A Dream or a Nightmare?

The year 2010 has so far proven to be a mixed bag for Rogers Wireless, it started off with the launch of it’s revised Hardware Upgrade Program which has been appaluded by mobile enthusiasts as well as customers in Canada.

However, it’s facing a rather tough time with it’s much hyped HTC Dream phone. The trouble started early when customers were informed that there are no Android upgrades planned any time soon for their ‘Dream’ phone. However, Rogers did offer an option to customers to upgrade to ‘Magic’ if they wanted to.

Now, it seems that one final blow has turned the dream into a nightmare – HTC Dream Customers can not make 911 calls if the GPS receiver is enabled. To be able to make emergency 911 calls, you’d have to keep your GPS receiver off until further notice from Rogers. To turn off the GPS receiver on your Dream phone, go to Settings -> Location -> Enable GPS Satellite and un-check it. All HTC Dream customers have been informed about the flaw and provided instruction to disable GPS Receiver through a text message.

This is clearly a massive flaw and has caused Rogers to stop the sales of HTC Dream till the issue is resolved. The Rogers HTC Dream Page mentions

“Unfortunately, the phone you are looking for is not available for purchase on www.rogers.com.
We do however, have plenty of other phones that might interest you. To see our full selection of wireless phones, visit our phones catalogue.”
