Koodo - HSPA Network in April-May ?

If the latest rumors on internet are to be believed, Koodo Mobile might launch its HSPA network as eary as April-May this year.

Koodo Mobile has always sought to differentiate itself as a low cost carrier, it’s tag line ‘Plans from $15 a month’ being a testimony of the company’s pricing model. The best part is that there is no fixed term contract courtesy the innovative ‘Koodo Tab’ approach.

The company has just launched its ‘Self Serve‘ facility in January which allows users to pay their bills, change their plans and add-ons and check their airtime usage.

The switch to HSPA network has been on the cards for a while now and with stiff competition from players which already have operational HSPA networks – Virgin Mobile and TELUS, it’s the case of ‘The Earlier, The Better’ for Koodo. Its inevitable that Koodo Mobile will add to its portfolio of smartphones as it prepares for the launch of its HSPA network in April-May timeframe.

Koodo Mobile’s current phone portfolio is dominated by low cost devices which are most in sub $200 category. With HSPA plans, that’s set to change. I’m not sure how well the Koodo’s ‘Use Tab’ pricing philosophy will work once it plans to bring on the likes of iPhone and Blackberry for its HSPA network.

Only time and Koodo will tell!
