WIND Mobile comes to Ottawa

WIND Mobile comes to Ottawa

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about WIND Mobile‘s aggressive plans to launch its services in Edmonton and Ottawa. The first leg of the launch was Edmonton and once the carrier network was operational there, the focus moved to the national capital Ottawa.

On his Blog, Ken Campbell, the CEO of WIND Mobile mentions –

“The week started in Ottawa where we did some final tweaks on the network to allow for a Technical launch and invited a few government people to a ‘reception’ to celebrate us turning the network on. What does this mean? Well, for those of you subscribing to WIND in other cities, you can now consider Ottawa as part of your Home.”

A Technical Launch effectively means that the network is 100% ready as far as network infrastructure is concerned. The good news is that WIND Mobile’s launch in Ottawa means that your Home Zone is extended and you can make/ receive calls to/ from other WIND customers within your Home Zone. As far as WIND Mobile network’s geographical reach in Ottawa is concerned, Ken mentions

“The Ottawa network extends from Orleans in the east to Kanata in the west. It also crosses the river to the Gatineau Hills and all the way to Buckingham. “

However, WIND Mobile is not selling any devices in Ottawa yet. As per Ken Campbell, the idea is to get the next few sites to ‘bolster’ the network and allow WIND to come to stores with a more extensive and reliable network ‘very soon’.

WIND Mobile’s network reach now includes Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa. The next stop is Vancouver.
