Catalyst Telecom informed no longer Avaya distributor in Canada

by Jeff Wiener on March 6, 2010

That was quite short lived.

I wrote a post on December 12th, 2009 with the following title:
Catalyst Telecom Expands into Canada. Avaya now has 2 Canadian distributors. Westcon and Catalyst

And then yesterday I received the following notice from Catalyst:
Avaya has informed us of their Canadian distribution strategy, and we’re disappointed to learn that Catalyst Telecom will not be a go-forward distributor in Canada effective June 30. However, we will continue to serve you with a focus on the rest of our product lines, like Extreme Networks, Aruba Networks, and others. Also, we will continue to be an Avaya distributor in the US.

I was aware of the fact that Avaya was going to make an announcement of which distributors would continue with distribution, and that they would ultimately in the end have 2 Canadian distribution channels. There was Ingram Micro, Tech Data, and Westcon on the Nortel side, and Westcon and Catalyst on the Avaya side. Avaya was, and it seems at this point has, consolidated the distribution channel to two distributors. Not sure what the final decision was. I suspect we will find out Monday.
