MMA Launches Canada Council

The Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) has announced the launch of its Canada council during CTIA Wireless 2010. MMA has been trying hard to establish its global presence by adding regional councils in all major developed nations. MMA Canada council will be led by Michael O’Farrell, Country Manager for the MMA; along with co-chairs Ross Buchanan, Director, Digital &Relationship Marketing at MolsonCoors; and Andrew Osmak, SVP, Business Development & New Ventures at LavaLife.

It is interesting to note that MMA already has established councils in UK, Austria, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Turkey, Philippines and India. MMA Canada has 25 founding member companies including ADO Strategies, Alcatel-Lucent, AllScenes, Atimi Software, Carlson Marketing, Comscore, Fjord Interactive (Cossette), VoCoMo (First Media Group), iLoop Mobile, Impact Mobile, LavaLife, Maritz Canada, Microsoft, Mobi Marketer, MolsonCoors, MyThum Interactive, Olive Media, Ontario College of Art & Design, The Weather Network (Pelmorex), Proximity (BBDO), Remedy Communications, Sybase 365, TAGGA Media, Transcontinental Media, Wavefront AC, Western Union, Wmode, Yellow Pages Group and Yahoo! Canada.

MMA expects to double its membership for Canada council by the end of this year. On the occasion of launch of Canada council, Federico Pisani Massamormile, MMA’s Global Chairman said

“The launch of our MMA Canada Council is a reflection of the continued growth of mobile marketing and demands for localized focus. In the past few years, the MMA has been able to build a global organization removing barriers to market development allowing for our members to meet regional needs.  Canada represents a significant market for mobile and a growing membership base. The MMA is pleased to have a formal presence in the country.”

Michael O’Farrell, Country Manager, Canada for MMA said

“We’ve been working in Canada to create a strong national presence and properly launch the MMA Canada Council. I’m pleased to be working with the MMA and all the founding members who are eager to work with industry, academia and alliances to maximize the opportunities for mobile marketers in Canada.”

MMA’s objective is to bring the entire mobile marketing ecosystem together under one roof and create a sustainable model for marketers using the mobile channel while ensuring the best possible consumer experience. IMO, MMA Canada council setup is a welcome move and I expect that many more Canadian companies will join as members in the coming months.
