Twitter App For Blackberry Now Available

Research in Motion has released a beta of its official Twitter app for Blackberry. There’s no doubt that Twitter is the current social media darling of people all over the globe and it continues to gain popularity with every passing day. Until now, Blackberry users had to resort to UberTwitter, a free Blackberry download that was initially very buggy but has since emerged as the best Twitter client for Blackberry users. The RIM Twitter app supports virtually all the features of this social networking service and will pose a stiff competition to UberTwitter.

The latest app has been tested internally by RIM since February, and the general release includes a number of extra features. It enables users to customize the way @replies and direct messages are received on their phone, and new messages get transmitted in near real-time so that users can respond instantly. The free app runs in the background, allowing Blackberry users to continue working on other tasks while still sending and receiving tweets. The beta version of the Twitter app for Blackberry does not support Twitter Trends but RIM plans to add this feature in a later release.

While the app is still in Beta, I’m pretty amazed with the intuitive design, well organized layout and easy navigation which works like a charm on my 2.5inch Blackberry screen. I also like the way it allows you to add photos to a tweet. When you compose a new message, there is a tiny camera icon which facilitates image posting. The app also provides the option of searching for other Twitter users and Tweets within a specified location. All said and done, I’m quiet impressed with what I’ve seen of the Twitter Blackberry app till now. The only glitch I observed is that the app can sometimes appear unresponsive or dead for a brief period (5-10 seconds) and then seems to recover to normal operation.

Twitter for Blackberry is available for free and can be downloaded from the Blackberry App World or directly from the Blackberry site. RIM says it is compatible with all Blackberry models.

Have you tried it out yet? If not, I suggest you do so soon. I’d be happy to hear your opinion about the Twitter Blackberry App.

I got this as a comment last week on my blog and it really made me quit and think about it. What job would you never do no matter just how much it paid?
