Are You Ready To Reserve Your iPhone 5? (It’s for Germany Though!)

by Gaurav Kheterpal on September 6, 2011

Like millions of other Apple fans, I too am eagerly waiting for the iPhone 5 launch. I’m not much of a drinker so my chances of finding the next iPhone ‘lost’ in a bar are pretty bleak. None the less, there’s good news for all iPhone addicts – Bloomberg reports that Deutsche Telekom is now accepting reservations for Apple’s iPhone 5 in Germany.

Based on the details available so far, it would be unfair to call it a ‘pre-order’ as the operator will actually hand out coupons to people who expressly request the successor model to the iPhone 4, without providing the name or release details of the device.

Though the ‘reservations’ are being made by the operator “in anticipation of supply bottlenecks”, it has set the clock ticking for Apple’s most anticipated product launch in the post Steve Jobs era.

Interestingly, T-Mobile has never sold an iPhone in the United States. The Deutsche Telekom site does not carry any information on the iPhone 5 pre-order offer. Just to be sure, I checked the T-Mobile U.S. as well and found no mention of the iPhone 5. However, a SlashGear report suggests that the hotly anticipated smartphone is likely to get pre-orders at all the T-Mobile branches worldwide, including the U.S. CNET reports that the pre-ordering process is being intentionally kept low profile, and deliberately avoids any mention of it in advertising or its online store.

On the other hand, another theory suggests that the whole news has been blown out of proportion and Deutsche Telekom is simply assuming a new iPhone is coming and is getting ready for the huge demand.

Several reports suggest that Best Buy is also gearing up to sell the iPhone 5 in the United States in October.

Apple, though, has declined to reveal the release date, price, specifications or any other information on the iPhone 5. In fact, we can’t even be sure if the device would be called the iPhone 5 or not. Till then, it’s safe to assume that this is just another news from the iPhone 5 rumor pool. A note to all Apple fanboys – be patient, the day is not too far away 🙂
