Big Three Reveal New Monthly Wireless Plans

by Gaurav Kheterpal on November 8, 2012

Though the ‘Big Three’ Canadian wireless carriers – Rogers, Telus and Bell had contrasting fortunes throughout this year, one thing is fore sure – each of them is vying hard to grab a slice of the lucrative holiday season pie. With new entrants such as Mobilicity and Wind Mobile exerting pressure with aggressive pricing, it was expected that the Big Three would have to rejig their holiday season plans.

Earlier this week, Rogers unveiled its new plans ranging from $55/month to $95/month with the theory that “customers can now get more wireless internet and unlimited calling for only a couple dollars more than they are paying today.” Bell yesterday announced its new unlimited talk and text plans starting from $55 and offering unlimited messaging including pictures and video.

TELUS too yesterday announced its newest suite of unlimited talk and family share plans featuring unlimited local talk and text starting $70.

Let’s first talk about Rogers’ new plans. The company claims these are futuristic and have been redesigned and simplified keeping the customer in mind and are introducing Unlimited Talk and Text with new options for Wireless Internet. Dubbed as the Occasional, Social, Streamer and Connected – all the new plans are shareable and offer unlimited local or Canada-wide calling as well as unlimited MMS and SMS. All plans were made available to new customers starting 7th November and existing customers can update their plan at no cost.

Bell’s new plans include

$55/month 1000 minutes, 200 MB broadband data
* $65/month unlimited local talk, 1 GB broadband data and 10 hours of Bell MobileTV
* $75/month unlimited local talk, 3 GB broadband data and 10 hours of Bell MobileTV
* $95/month unlimited Canada-wide talk, 5 GB broadband data and 10 hours of Bell MobileTV

“Talk and text just got better with Bell. We’re proud to be at the forefront of delivering ever-greater value to Canadian consumers, unleashing the power and potential of Bell’s tremendous range of superphones and other great mobile devices,” said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility.
