Telus Promotes Key Executives To Manage Quebec Region

by Gaurav Kheterpal on November 28, 2012

A year back, Telus made a bold prediction of having a ‘Big 2012‘. And what an year it’s been for one of Canada’s leading wireless carriers – strong first and second quarter performances, rapid expansion in its LTE footprint and the overall feel good factor by customer friendly moves such as ditching its activation fee and its equipment exchange fee.

Back in June, Telus said that Quebec plays a key role in its overall strategy and committed to investing $840 million in Quebec over the next three years as part of its 2012 capital spending program.

And yesterday, the carrier further strengthened its presence in the Quebec region by announcing that François Côté, Executive Vice President of TELUS has expanded his portfolio to include executive oversight of TELUS Ventures, François Gratton has been appointed President of TELUS Québec and Atlantic Canada, and Paul Lepage has been appointed the President of TELUS Health and Payment Solutions.

The three executives are currently based in Montreal and have been promoted for their contributions to TELUS’ overall success and the increasing importance and level of contribution the TELUS Québec team has on the organization’s national strategy. The company currently employs more than 5,500 people in the province. Since 2000, Telus has invested a whopping $12.3 billion in Québec’s economy and infrastructure development.

“Elevating the executive responsibilities of these three accomplished TELUS leaders demonstrates our commitment to, and the importance of, the Québec market in our organisation. As a major employer and industry leader, TELUS is dedicated to building on the hard work and skill of our more than 5,500 current Québec team members and our alumni who have demonstrated the courage to innovate within the communications industry over the past 85 years,” said Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of TELUS. “I am confident that François Côté, François Gratton and Paul Lepage will continue to strengthen TELUS’ position as a communications leader, not only within Québec, but also on a global basis.”

Cote has been with Telus since 2008, and he now takes charge of investments for Telus Ventures on a global basis. He will be responsible of advancing Telus investments in the communications sector while increasing investment in the health sector specifically in preventative healthcare.

On the other hand, Gratton will be in charge of the growth opportunities that Telus is pursuing in the Atlantic Canada market. He has previously handled several challenge roles such as Telus Health and the Senior Vice President of Business Markets for Telus Québec. He will also be responsible for Telus broadband wireless and wireline services in Eastern Québec, including Optik TV and Internet Haute Vitesse.

In his new role as President, Telus Health and Payment Solutions, Lepage will be responsible for defining the company’s strategic priority to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Canada’s healthcare system through technology and innovation. He was recently honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his leadership role in the strategic direction that allowed Telus Health to make its mark in the areas of mobile health and remote patient monitoring.
