Blackberry Q10 arrives on May 1

by Andrew Roach on April 24, 2013

It has been the centre of much speculation in recent weeks but Blackberry have finally announced when the Q10 will hit stores across Canada.

The next Blackberry 10 smartphone will be released on May 1 across the country as many providers are already taking orders for the phone.

Roger, Telus and BCE are already offering several plans in a bid to entice users to try and purchase the smartphone when it launches.

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the Q10 which brings back some of the more distinguishable features from past Blackberry phones such as the QWERTY keypad.

It’s not surprising to see the Q10 being given the early May release date as the device had always been slated for a Q2 release.

On top of that, many of the major wireless providers had been taking pre-orders on the Q10 since the start of the month leading many to suspect that a release date would soon be upon us.

Therefore, it’s not surprising that the Big Three providers are already advertising several plans for the Q10 which start from $199 for a 3 year contract.

However, there are some differences when it comes to buying the phone unlocked with Telus and BCE offering the device for $700 whilst Rogers are offering the device for $650.

Initially, it seems that the Q10 will only be released in Canada at the start of May with Blackberry still yet to announce any release dates for other parts of the world.

There has been a lot of build up to the Q10 as it looks to be very much a mix of the old and new features that Blackberry has showed off through the years.

Whilst it uses the new Blackberry 10 operating system powers the device, the smartphone will also feature the QWERTY keypad that had become the signature feature of many older Blackberry devices.

On top of that, the Blackberry Q10 will also have other features such as an 8MP rear camera, NFC and 64GB of removable storage.

After already enjoying a lot of success with the Z10, Blackberry will be hoping that the Q10 will be the phone that cements their place back at the top of the smartphone world.
