Telus Plans to Invest $265 million in Québec this Year

Since 2000, Telus has invested $14 billion in technology and operations — 4G LTE network, fibre-to-the-home, Optik TV, cloud-computing, health technology — in Québec. On top of that comes another $265 million investment to expand 4G LTE coverage to more people and other services. The amount is part of the carrier’s three-year commitment to invest $840 million in Québec by 2014.

The $265 million capital investment will allow the company to continue deploying the 4G LTE network to another 30 communities this year. Its 4G network is already available to more than 70% of the Québec population through its launch in the Montreal, Québec City, Chaudière–Appalaches, Mauricie, Gatineau, Lower St. Lawrence, Gaspé, Côte-Nord, Charlevoix and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean regions.

Alongside the expansion of 4G coverage, the investment will also enable the company to expand its Optik TV service and deploy its fibre-to-home network, develop its range of business services, improve healthcare, and continue to support hundreds of Québec charities.

“This year’s $265 million capital investment builds on the $14 billion we have invested in technology and operations across Quebec since 2000. We want Quebec consumers, businesses and the public sector to have access to the fastest and most reliable technology possible. We also want to leverage our world-class innovation and technology to tackle the challenges facing our healthcare system,” explains François Côté, Executive Vice President of TELUS and Vice-Chair of TELUS Quebec, TELUS Health and TELUS Ventures.

Bell, on the other hand, has announced a total of $779 investment in capital for the fourth quarter of 2012. This brings the total capital expenditures up to $2,923 million in 2012, up 8.9% from the previous year. These investments support the continued deployment of broadband fibre to homes, neighbourhoods, and businesses in Québec and Ontario and expansion of the Fibe TV service footprint, enhancement of customer service systems, the ongoing rollout of the 4G LTE mobile network in markets across Canada, and the addition of new Bell and The Source stores across Canada.
