Telus to Invest $1.3 Billion Across Québec, $55 Million in Montreal

by Istvan Fekete on May 7, 2014

According to a plan unveiled two years ago, Telus plans to invest $640 million across the province by the end of this year, and today announced its commitment to invest another $700 million by 2016 to build infrastructure.

This raises the company’s total investment to more than $20 billion between 2000 and the end of 2016. “Our networks allow Quebecers and businesses to connect no matter where they are, from Gatineau to Gaspésie to Havre-Saint-Pierre,” said François Gratton, president of TELUS Québec and Atlantic Canada. “Our technology investments mean better health care for patients, improved connection speeds for businesses and the best access to entertainment at home and on the road. Through our investments, TELUS will bring fibre optics to thousands of households in remote areas of Quebec, making the province one of the most connected places in the world. Our 6,000 team members in Quebec bring our advanced networks to rural areas and big cities alike, and contribute to the economic development of every part of the province. This is why our customers have recognized us as the most recommended telecommunications provider in Quebec.”

Furthermore, Canada’s No. 2 wireless player has announced that it will invest $55 million in the Montreal metropolitan area to continue connecting the area’s businesses to fibre optics. The investment will take place this year and will bring multiple benefits to Montreal residents; for example, more than 80% of the Québec population will have access to LTE technology.

The $55 million investment in Montreal is part of Telus’ $1.3 billion investment in Québec through 2016. “We expect Canadians’ mobile data usage to increase ninefold in the next five years, and Montrealers are leading the charge,” said François Gratton, president of TELUS Québec and Atlantic Canada. “This is why it is essential to keep investing in our high-speed networks, supporting day-to-day business activities, entertainment services, and access to indispensable health care. Our business strategy has remained unchanged for the past 13 years: we are harnessing the power of the Internet to offer customers the best experience at home, at work and on the move. It is a commitment that the 3,500 TELUS team members in the metropolitan area care deeply about. Our efforts are working, as our customers have recognized us as the most recommended telecommunications provider in Quebec,” the company highlighted in a press release.
